Stay Vigilant: Protect Yourself from Credit Card Scams

Common Tactics Used by Scammers

One popular method scammers use is phishing, where they send fake emails or text messages that appear to be from trusted companies like banks, credit card issuers, or online retailers. These messages often ask you to click on a link or provide personal information, such as your credit card number or account login details. Always be cautious when you receive unexpected messages asking for personal information. It’s best to contact the company directly using a known and trusted method to verify the authenticity of the communication.

Another common scam involves fake websites designed to look almost identical to legitimate sites. Scammers create these sites to deceive you into entering your credit card information for purchases or account logins. To safeguard yourself, always ensure that the website address starts with “https://” and look for a padlock icon in the address bar, which indicates a secure connection. Stick to reputable websites when shopping online, and avoid entering your credit card details on unfamiliar or suspicious sites.
