It’s Election Day, here are some fun facts about Election Day!!!

  • Why Tuesday? Back in 1845, Congress picked the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November as Election Day. With Sunday being a religious day and Wednesday a market day for farmers, Tuesday turned out to be the most practical choice for getting to the polls.
  • The Famous “I Voted” Sticker: These little stickers have been around since the 1980s, each state has its own unique design, making them a collectible item for many voters.
  • Paper ballots are still very popular: Even with all our technology, paper ballots remain a trusted staple in U.S. elections, offering accuracy and an old-school backup!
  • More Than Presidents: Local and state offices are also on the ballot today. These officials often impact our daily lives the most, from city councils to school boards.
  • Pizza Party Tradition: Did you know that some Americans celebrate Election Day with a special food tradition? Many people enjoy ordering pizza while they wait for results! This delicious tradition dates back to the 1980s when a popular pizza chain started offering free pizza to voters in exchange for their “I Voted” stickers.
